From top to bottom, locations are side by side, all were taken on the side of the country roads around A2, so none of the specific locations have special meanings for me:
- These two photos were taken in field on the side of Scio Church road. I like these because I think they did the best job of capturing the feelings of fall and the changing of the seasons that we experience in Michigan. I also really like the way that the unfiltered one turned out with the colors of the foreground and background blending together.
- Like the first two, I like these two because they capture the warm brown that is the essence of fall in rural Michigan. I especially like the painted one here because it looks the most like a watercolor composition. I also really like how the diagonal leading lines draw the eyes down the field into the horizon. I think this picture is my favorite of the bunch.
- In this pair I tried to contrast the green of Spring and Summer with the brown and grey of Fall and Winter. I think this worked especially well in the left of the two pictures. I was able to capture the brown in the foreground and background, and have it contrast with the green of the midground and blue of the sky. I don't really like the way the watercolor filters turned out on the right one though, I think it would've worked better if the image was blown up a bit.
- These two images were taken at the pond on the corner of Scio Church and Parker. I've driven through this intersection a fair bit, but I've never taken too much time to actually stop and admire the beauty of it. It was a bit of a challenge to capture just the nature. If this assignment were a bit different, I'd have liked to show the contrast between the busy intersection and the tranquil pond just a few feet away. I like the way the symmetry works in the left of the two pictures, with the water wrapping around the grove of trees.
- I tried to take a different approach with these two. Instead of capturing many details spread out, I tried to focus on the more intricate details of the tree and pile of wood. I especially like the depth of the sticks in the right one and how you can look deeper and deeper into it. I also like the tree because of the contrast between the blue of the sky and the brown of the tree. I'd like to try a picture like that again but without the direct light on the tree to see if I can capture more of a silhouette with even more contrast.
